The Secret Life of Periwinkles

Periwinkles are so common along our shore that it’s easy to take them for granted. But these small marine snails have interesting stories told by interesting people – special thanks to Hannah Webber of Schoodic Institute for getting me out on Maine’s rocky edge and sharing her knowledge of Littorina, and to Susan Brawley of the University of Maine for her own work to learn more about the secret lives of snails and seaweed.

Take a tour through the intertidal zone of history and ecology in the latest issue of Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine.
